TENOR HIDE: TREKKING AND HIDING IN TAMAN NEGARA

TREKKING AND HIDING  IN TAMAN NEGARA: TENOR HIDE and TRAIL

Have you been to Tenor Hide, located deep in the forest of Taman Negara National Park Peninsular Malaysia.? Had been to Taman Negara but miss this trip? Then, you should come again to this 150-year-old rainforest and this time, spent a few days exploring the Tenor Trail and catch sighting of animals at Tenor Hide. Follow me on my adventure to this place with my family.

This is Tenor Hide. Constructed by the Park and Wildlife Department of Malaysia, it is located deep...deep...inside the rainforest of Taman Negara. Made from a mixture of concrete and timber, it was built high-up the forest floor and have some table and chairs. A long look-out windor to observe the forest canopy is also available. You can sit here for hours checking the forest sorrounding. It is a suitable look-out  place to view the forest from a canopy level. However, no beds and no bathroom facility are provided, so overnight stay is not recommended. However, you can always check with the Information Centre at Kuala Tahan, whether it is OK to spend the night at the hide.

My five-month old baby just woke up after a 2-hour long nap. She slept comfortably under a tree, alongside  the Tahan River at  Lubuk Tenor campsite. It is better to stay overnight here by camping and do a one day trek to Tenor Hide as what my family did. Camping here allow you to have countless swimming and bathing opportunity, easy to clean your cloth and camping gear. You can dry them under the hot afternoon sun and easy to do simple cooking here, and above all , the scenery is just awesome!

The trail is not hard, mostly easy trek for everybody. If my 80kg-body and my two young children can do this trek, then I assumed that the rest of the world population can easily trek at this trail. However, please drink plenty of water. If you trek from Lubuk Tenor (on the right side of the Tahan River),  you will pass through this signboard. On the left is a trek to a nearby hill Bukit Kemtor and on the right is to Lata Berkoh and Tenor Hide. For our family, we skip Bukit Kemtor (you can guess the reason) and head off to Tenor Hide, another relaxing trek.  But, beware, leaches are everywhere. Scary to some people but my children just enjoyed playing with them!

My daughter resting after playing with the kelah fish. Lubuk Tenor is a haven for kelah fish and for other swimmers such as human. Or your can relax along the river and watch kingfisher flying around looking for small fishs or a few monkeys doing their monkeying stuff on tree top. Or just snooze away like what my baby did.

My children loved trekking so much that they had already trekked for two hours. Some section of the trail is small but this part of the trail is wide enough for elephants. My family did a slow trek, observing the many types of plants available. There were many epiphytes growing on another big tree, and vines and lianas which are commonly found in the tropical rainforest. My children born and raised just opposite the Tembeling River of Taman Negara, so weekly outing in the National Park is so common to them. They always wondered, "Why are they the only Malaysian children trekking deep in the forest of Taman Negara?"
It is definately true as we only encountered foreign tourists on most of our treks deep in Taman Negara. I told them,"Malaysians prefer to stick to the 3day-2night package tours to Taman Negara, and long trekking is definately not included in the itinerary."

My family inside the Tenor Hide. My 5-month old baby is snoozing when we arrived and still sleeping when we departed from the hide.

You will surely notice this huge gigantic koompasia excelsa tree from the look-out windor of Tenor Hide. This tree or commonly known as tualang tree, is one of the tallest tree species in Malaysia. It can grow up to a height of 80 metres. The trees are commonly found in lowland forests of Taman Negara.

During our stay at Lubuk Tenor campsite, we hire this boat just for simple kayaking pleasure. I'm not sure if this boat is still there for hire. Please check with the Information Centre in Kuala Tahan for current information.
